Tu b&#8217;Shevat is celebrated is a variety of ways. Analyze your school\u2019s unique Tu b&#8217;Shevat from a public relations perspective. Then strategically sow your PR seeds and weed out any\u00a0PR myths that may be threatening your harvest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your Tu b\u2019Shevat PR should be about more than getting a picture in the paper. It should help attain your short and long term goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dispel Myths!\u00a0Myths persist and sadly the bad ones blossom. Use your Tu b&#8217;Shevat PR to weed them out!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Myth One:<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The school\u2019s Judaic Studies curriculum is basic, boring, and not rigorous.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Promote your Tu b&#8217;Shevat Seder not only as a feel-good\u201d photo-op but also as a concrete celebration of Jewish history and philosophy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Share how students learned about the development of rituals. An\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lookstein.org\/professional-dev\/introduction-tu-bshvat-seder\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><u>Introduction to the Tu b&#8217;Shevat Seder by David Jay Derovan<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>,<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>provides excellent background, tracing the b&#8217;Shevat Seder\u2019s historical development to the sixteenth century kabbalists of Tzfat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Myth Two:<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Students\u00a0put money in a <em>tzedaka<\/em> box every Friday and participate in bike-a-thons, but they don\u2019t connect to them or <em>Eretz Yisrael\u00a0<\/em>in a meaningful manner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If such\u00a0misperceptions keep\u00a0you awake at night, your PR efforts should focus on how you teach a connection to the earth. Focus on your innovative, cross-curricular methods of teaching environmental responsibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Myth Three:<\/strong><\/span> The school provides and excellent Judaic and Secular studies education. Sadly, they don\u2019t seem to be very Zionistic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your release should demonstrate that your Tu b&#8217;Shevat lessons foster a direct connection to Israel by\u00a0addressing current environmental issues and challenges in Israel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #006600;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-436 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Plant3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Plant3.jpg 288w, https:\/\/creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Plant3-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/>Sprout Sensationally&#8230;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s possible that your goal is simply to appear in the newspaper monthly. Even so, think about your overall calendar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A simple PR calendar should reflect your school\u2019s varied strengths. Even if you have a loyal base AND a pre-school waiting list, you must\u00a0present a well-rounded image.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Clearly, a community day school promotes itself differently than a <em>mesivta<\/em>. Yet, the strategic rules are the same. If your goal is to be in print once a month during the school year, you still need to plan twelve\u00a0releases and be sure that collectively they reflect ALL your priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So while a <em>mesivta<\/em> might learn more heavily toward articles that reflect its <em>Limudei Kodesh<\/em> curriculum and the <em>kesher<\/em> maintained with alumni while students are studying in Israeli <em>yeshivas<\/em> and after they return to pursue college education. To reflect varying strengths, a <em>mesivta<\/em> should be sure to promote its AP scholar and state-of-the-art Science program. It also features sample lesson plans to educate about the environment from a Torah perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lookstein Center<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lookstein.org\/professional-dev\/tu-bshvat\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><u>The Lookstein Center<\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em>provides links to a variety of lesson plans, articles and printable Tu b&#8217;Shevat Sederim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hazon<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Hazon is a dynamic organization that works to create a healthier and more sustainable Jewish community for all.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hazon.org\/jewish-food-movement\/holidays\/tu-bshvat\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><u>Learn about its innovative educational curricula and resources<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>and download the Tu b&#8217;Shevat Haggadah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL)<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> COEJL seeks to expand the contemporary understanding of such Jewish values as <em>Tikkun Olam,<\/em> <em>Tzedek<\/em>, and <em>G&#8217;Milut Chasadim<\/em> to environmental action and advocacy.\u00a0<\/span><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coejl.org\/resources\/resources-for-tu-bshvat\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>Its Tu b&#8217;Shevat page features creative <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">resources<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">.<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jewish National Fund<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The Jewish National Fund (JNF) is not only about tree certificates and little blue Tzedaka boxes (though they certainly are a source for both)! Access the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.jnf.org\/site\/SPageServer\/?pagename=treesource\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><u>JNF&#8217;s Tu b&#8217;Shevat Across America page<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>which provides different Tu b&#8217;Shevat Haggadot, activities, lesson plans, sermons, and a host of other resources.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jnf.org\/work-we-do\/our-projects\/education\/tu-bishvat-in-the-schools.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><u>Tu b&#8217;Shevat in the Schools program<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>will provide you with free educational newsletters and posters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Teva Center<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hazon.org\/teva\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><u>Teva Center<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>is a non-denominational Jewish Environmental Education Institute. It runs single-day programs as well as residential programs (from two- to four-days in duration) for fourth- through eighth-graders. These intensive programs are designed to sensitize participants to nature&#8217;s rhythms and help them develop a more meaningful relationship with both nature and their own Jewish practices.
