Parents who proclaimed, \u201cthe teacher is always right,\u201d raised me. Today\u2019s parents, in contrast, often repeat tales of real and perceived insults that they or their children \u201csuffered\u201d at the hands of teachers and administrators. Prevent bad parent press and ensure great parent allegiance by cultivating parent loyalty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23. <span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Plan and execute<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0concrete steps for\u00a0you, your lay leaders, and staff, take to ensure parent loyalty.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24. <span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Welcome<\/strong><\/span> each parent when they walk in the door! Security guards as well as volunteers can accompany instructions to \u201csign here\u201d with warm, welcoming smiles.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25. Once parents enter the office, be sure that your\u00a0office staff behaves like friends not\u00a0foes. Sadly, I\u2019ve observed school office personnel bury their heads in their papers as if hoping that the person at the next desk will greet the (clearly unwelcome) visitors.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26. Be sure\u00a0parents are greeted warmly over\u00a0the phone.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27. Be sure your voice mail system is user friendly. Call your extension. How many buttons did you have to push before encountering a human?<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28. Institute a policy of mandating that all (non-emergency) calls are returned within 24 hours.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29. <span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong>Think about your written communication<\/strong><\/span>. Does it consider what the parents want to know? They want to know about their children&#8217;s curriculum, accomplishments, and activities. They want to know that you are their partners in reinforcing critical values and <em>midot<\/em>. And of course, they want to feel secure that their children are gaining the skills they will need to succeed academically and professionally.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30. Use more than one method to inform parents about upcoming events.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31. Do not\u00a0flood your parents\u2019 in-boxes with messages that don\u2019t pertain to them. Did you know that one of the top reasons people give for unsubscribing to emails groups is \u201ctoo frequent emailing?\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32. Be honest: are you an email abuser? Think not? Think again.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/youve-got-mail\"><u>Click here to read my past article, You\u2019ve Got Mail.<\/u><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33. Communication guru Frank Luntz asserts, <span style=\"color: #006600;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">it\u2019s<\/span><em><strong> Not What You Say, its What People <span style=\"color: #006600;\">Hear.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0Lose the knee jerk \u201chow am I supposed to predict what they hear\u201d reaction. Become familiar with parents\u2019 pre-conceived notions, thoughts, biases, goals, and dreams for their children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I realize that it\u2019s hard to digest 33 tips.
