Within days, I discovered my insensitive error: I had not considered the sad reality that fact some students didn\u2019t have living grandparents. I apologized and moved forward with the \u201cIntergenerational Special Person Group.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fortunately, I was savvy enough to realize that if the group was going to succeed I needed \u2018buy-in\u2019 from grandparents and other relatives. I formed an Intergenerational Group to act as an advisory committee. They shared that while they would fly cross-country for a Chanukah play or graduation, they really wanted to experience the nitty-gritty! What was going on the classroom?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Take away? Larger intergenerational events such as Sunday breakfasts or <em>melave malkes\u00a0<\/em>included curriculum fairs or individual classroom activities. We budgeted the extra time to invite parents and extended families to be photographed with the principal, teacher, and child at <em>siddur\u00a0<\/em>and c<em>humash <\/em>plays \u2013 and presented <em>mi\u2019 dor l\u2019dor<\/em>certificates to these special guests. Eventually, they were happy to not only pay \u201cIntergenerational League\u201d dues but also to make larger contributions. Moreover, many volunteered their time and expertise \u2013 becoming our true partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #006600;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1191 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Intergenerational5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Intergenerational5.jpg 288w, https:\/\/creativecommunicationsgroup.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Intergenerational5-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/>The Learning Experience<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During the past few months, I was thrilled to celebrate a <em>chagigat chumash<\/em>at Yeshiva Har Torah and an intergenerational day and <em>chagigat siddur<\/em>at Farber Hebrew Academy.
